To Watch a Falling Star

To watch a falling star
From a distance, sailing
Then shooting down the midnight sky
My small outstretched hand
Too far to grasp or touch
What is tumbling beyond the blue

The rising star,
A state of grace
And contained within, a fatal flaw
The light of a brief candle
A promise, but
By morning, gone
Evaporated
Into the now sun-lit starry night
